Singer-songwriter Joh shares a self-introspective story with her second release of the year, “Rainy Daze“. Following the release of her well-loved EP with artist Samjgarfield, Joh started working on her solo career and has put out a constant stream of singles since 2020 such as “Vivre” and “You Can’t Get A Man With A Gun”. She explores themes of love, lust and loss in her music while using somewhat dark melodies and powerful cadences to tell her story. Her latest single is an acoustic-guitar driven track with intricate instrumentation that basically describes her wants and desires.
“Rainy Daze” begins with some sultry vocals and guitars. A simple melody drives the track right from the start, creating a sort of nostalgic ambience. “You’ve got me standing out here all night / I knew I’d be waiting for you and that’s alright”. Joh seems confident in her delivery as she sings about what she craves. There are no boundaries between her and what she wants, even in the face of unexpected events such as rainy days and locked doors. Her vocal control here is fantastic, and paired with her seductive tone, it’s hard not to love her performance.
The masterfully-produced track features melodic strings, effective drum rhythms and a driving bass; a beautiful mix of instruments that accompany Joh throughout. The artist doesn’t really adhere to any genre while creating music and that’s what makes her tracks all the more special. Her previous release “Groove” is an upbeat house track that’s nothing like “Rainy Daze”. Joh’s contrasting compositions show that she’s a multi-talented artist who doesn’t mind stepping out of her comfort zone, and I think that’s what makes her stand out from the crowd!
