Ten Minute Detour serves soothing Indie Rock on “Over Under”

Ten Minute Detour is an Indie rock band formed in 2013. For the past decade they have been touring all over Canada, doing what they’re best at, playing live music. They have been officially releasing music since 2015, crafting carefully and extensive discography of singles and albums. Their latest single “Over Under” is nostalgic, soothing and extremely well produced!

The track starts rather abruptly and we are flung into the central guitar riff that is extremely catchy. The strings have a twangy and sour tone which I thought was an interesting and country-esque sonic choice. The percussion is standard and supports the track, standing as its backbone. The raspy, whispery and airy vocals are the star of the show that really suits the sombre and soothing mood the song is going for. The instrumentation really aids the vocal performance and ties everything together coherently.

Lyrically the track addresses the end of a feeling, perhaps even the end of a relationship. The songwriting directly addresses a person and is in conversation with them in lines like “Would You believe me,….”. While the line “Taking me over, pulling me under” is delivered quite poetically, it may be referencing the loss of control and individuality in a relationship. The line “Don’t tell me that I wanted to let you go” highlights how the end of something is not necessarily the responsibility of one person alone.

The soothing, gentle melody is well written and well produced. The track is settling and screams nothing but quality. Make sure to check out “Over Under” by Ten Minute Detour here:
