Geoff Gibbons is a singer-songwriter based in Vancouver who is self-admittedly inspired by the genres Americana, 70s folk rock and modern alternative country which he blends together to form his own unique sound. His musical origins can be traced back to his childhood filled with pop and country rock music. He has been releasing music since 2018 and has several albums and singles under his belt. His latest single “Morgantown” is filled to the brim with nostalgia!

The track starts off with an acoustic guitar riff that is really pleasant on the ears. Along with the light hi-hats on the percussion and ambience enhancing bass guitar, the song sets a soothing tone for the vocals of Geoff Gibbons to grow into. The vocal performance is the highlight of the track along with the chord progression that tugs at the listener’s heartstrings. I particularly enjoyed the sweet country-like harmonies on the strings and thought that the back up vocals added texture to the song.

Lyrically the track explores missing a loved one who has left town to pursue her dreams. Morgantown is too small for the lover’s ambitions, but the town makes little sense without her presence. The inevitable separation is sentimental and the track ends by letting the loved one know that the singer is always there is Morgantown, waiting for her return if she ever wants to come back. The fact that the songwriting was respectful without being bitter or depreciating the lover’s vision for her future made it all the more enjoyable!
Morgantown makes you feel all the feelings it intends in its songwriting. Though it is instrumentally simple, it lets the spirit of innocent love in a small town take over! Make sure to check out the track here:
