Pixia is an alternative pop artist from London who primarily plays with the genre of dark pop and gothic music. Her journey with music began at a young age and she has been releasing music since 2021. Her tracks have a tinge of melancholy as an undercurrent to the upbeat electronic production and her latest single “Last Words” is no exception!

“Last Words” starts off with urgent keys and makes liberal use of airy beats and ambience setting sonic elements. It follows the conventional structures of a pop track and has electronic production that efficiently plays with energy levels. The instrumentation on the track however takes a backseat to the vocal performance by Pixia. She has a strong deep voice which she uses to give an almost dead-pan and brash delivery during the verses. We witness her bring in more baby-doll vocal inflections during the chorus with which she displays her capacity for versatility.
The songwriting explores a very specific state of mind post heartbreak. Pixia is seen exploring alternative possibilities with the hook of the song; whether she would be in this circumstance if she revealed her last words. Other emotions that follow a heartbreak such as delusion, fantasy, self-righteousness, self-decoration and hurt are delved into.

Pixia brings with her a pop girl aesthetic that is visually a reminder of artists like Ariana Grande, sonically reminiscent of Taylor Swift, vocally suggestive of Adele and rebelliously evocative of newer artists like Olivia Rodrigo. The bridge is sonically very different from the rest of the track which I personally really enjoyed!
