At first glance, what catches the attention about this funky, folky album is the paronomasia on the word ‘wise’. Love is Whys by Graham Price Gift Shop is a rewarding take on the experiences we all share around love. The world has turned love into an adjective for material gain, confusing even the most grounded among us. Perhaps that’s all well, because confusion invites questioning, and questions are the steps towards untangling. Here, Graham Price Gift Shop unwraps the wisdom of love through whys: two of humankind’s most defining traits, love and inquisition.
Love is Whys is an experimental, funky, synth-pop album filled with ten songs that are pure zest.
The album opens with an electro-pop and acoustic blend in the first minute and a half, titled Cherish Love. Much to our listening joy, Graham’s unique vocal style takes us on an experiential ride aboard this musical love train. Good over six minutes, Cherish Love is a groovy track featuring Alexx Becker. Her voice adds to the dreamy texture and vibrant colourfulness of the number.

Next on the list is Home, a song that will make you long for the sense of home so many in this world have forgotten. A home beyond city lights, credit cards, and fancy cars. Graham captures the deep yearning living in the hearts of many and brings out the direness of that desire. The song is a breezy indie number, its melody carrying a gentle lullaby effect that drifts the listener into a dreamy space.
Come to Me, My Memory, Alyssa Forte’s lead vocal is the highlight of this song. Her expression of the lyrical beauty it carries is profoundly sincere, reflecting the duality of life. The fragile memories, lovingly carried by the song birds within the tenderness of time, evoke a sense of wistful grace. It’s a mystical journey of sweet acoustics, with gentle synth in the background, moving through the chaos of the present. Come to Me, My Memory is one of the most soothing tracks in the set, slowly unfolding its intimacy through lyrical depth and a moody folk vibe.

Bringing a jazzy end to the album is the number We Fall in Line. Closing the vicious cycle, We Fall in Line serves as a hopelessly hopeful conclusion to an album dedicated to love. The standout moment comes near the end of the song, when it strips back to just the vocals and a lone guitar, a moment which feels like a rebirth.
