‘Sketches on the Wall – Reimagined’ is more Indo than Western, and finds Seema Farswani inclining more into her roots. There is a closer-to-the-heartstrings acoustic that sets the motion of the reimagined, and the cajon lining up as the Indian tabla soon after. Like a warm feeling wrapped in little nostalgia, Farswani’s voice is softer and gentler in this version. ‘Sketches on the Wall – Reimagined’ is less electric and more rhythmic.

In this reimagined version, Seema grounds her music in indigenous origins. Lyrics unchanged, yet the poetic Hindi lines, which speak of leaving behind hope & desire, and broken dreams, feel less painful. In this style of reconstructing the song, Seema’s emotional perception of conveying the departure and change deepens. The song feels like striding ahead towards light, yet going back in time. A dichotomy. Even the change in the image of her song’s poster depicts a softer, ancient version of the city she is entering, from that of the earlier dark, modern, sci-fi-like skyline. Perhaps it is a journey of peeling away the layers from one’s personality and going back to the golden from the dark.

Seema Farswani is an artist who refuses to live in one place, musically or emotionally. Her voice carries the dust of blues bars, the shine of pop-rock hooks, and the ache of indigenous melodies, all braided into something boldly her own. From the multilingual swagger of Got My Mojo to the soulful pull of Something’s Got a Hold on Me, she’s never afraid to reshape herself mid-song.
