“Gave up on Me”, electronica by 10 Billion Lost explores grief

10 Billion Lost is a retro-futuristic synth-wave duo based in Lisbon. As a relatively new and mysterious music project, they explore their electro-rock dispositions on their second and latest single “Gave up on Me”.

The lead vocalist of “Gave up on Me” has a huskiness to his voice that he delivers with a melancholic spin, immediately filling the ambience with emotion. The hard-hitting percussion that keeps the track alive is well-produced and stands out as one of the more prominent elements on the single. Its appearance as thundering sounds adds to the enigmatic environment. While the track starts off mysterious and urgent, it eases into its keys that are ethereal. The old-school keys on the bridge are especially interesting to listen to. The synths are at once angelic, brash and unapologetic; its blurred chaos being its charm.

The song-writing explores themes of regret, blame and coming into oneself. The hurt of being abandoned is relieved by feeling like one is too good to let go; which is a double-edged sword that once boosts self-esteem and takes the pain away by devaluing the other person. From the lead vocalist’s delivery, one can’t help but come to the conclusion that he is convincing himself of the words coming out of his mouth. True vulnerabilities are let out in the one sentence “I didn’t mean any harm; I’ve been missing you”.

The track is an exploration of dark emotions through bright synth production. Make sure to check out “Gave up on Me” by 10 Billion Lost here. Follow them on Soundcloud and Instagram as well!
