Damien Cain’s “Caleb” Is The Queer Rock Anthem We Didn’t Know We Needed This Year

Damien Cain’s new single “Caleb” breaks your heart into a million pieces and doesn’t even try to fix it. This punchy, melancholic alt-rock number might just be the queer anthem of 2026.

“Caleb” feels personal, like a confession only spoken in whispers and never out loud. Damien Cain wears his heart on his sleeve on this one and belts out this extremely raw and intimate song that really tugs at your heartstrings.

The track kicks off with a soft, haunting piano melody that feels like the calm before a storm. Then Cain’s grunge-y voice floats in, carrying the kind of sadness that only a few people who have been through similar experiences can understand. The sonic textures in this song is very reminiscent of 2000s alt-rock like Breaking Benjamin, Secondhand Serenade, Incubus, etc.

Eventually, the song takes a more angsty turn. The drums pace up, guitars grow harsher, and the whole thing reaches an epic climax.

“Caleb” is super sincere and honest in its lyrical narrative. Lines like “I gave you my heart, but you’ve walked away” could easily sound cliche, but Cain delivers them with so much honesty and emotion that they feel real. They almost feel like thoughts that have you on a chokehold on a sleepless night.

The queer love story that’s at the centre of this song is bold and honest. However, it’s not the only focus in the song. Heartbreak is a universal experience afterall, even if the details may differ in each story.

Jamie Wiltshire makes a guest appearance on this track. His voice may have been introduced as a support, but eventually shifts into a full-on duet. His silky vocals complement Cain’s gritty voice. The two voices create the feeling of two people processing the same loss from different points of view. Their chemistry is impeccable, especially considering the two musicians have never actually met in person.

If you’ve ever struggled to move on from someone who still occupies space in your memories, and are a fan of 2000s alt-rock inspired music, “Caleb” will most definitely find a way into your playlist.
