You know those times when life feels like an endless rut of the same things happening everyday, again and again like a broken record? Anna Thoresen’s “Groundhog Day” is a soundtrack to that.
Written, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely from her home studio in Los Angeles, Thoresen’s latest single dives headfirst into the exhausting loop of sadness, distance, and relationships that never seem to land where you want them to. Heavy topic? Sure. Heavy-handed? Not even close.

“Groundhog Day” is one of those works of art that strives to make you feel uncomfortable. The guitar-led production feels restless and slightly off balance but really in the best ways, with layered textures and unexpected chord choices that reflect the feeling of being mentally stuck while life keeps moving around you.
You can hear hints of classic rock energy underneath the modern indie shell, but Thoresen really creates her sui generis sound here. She is driven by familiar influences while making something that feels completely her own.
The song stays stuck in your mind long after its ended too. And I feel very few songs have the power to do that these days. Thoresen takes inspiration from her own experience of isolation after moving to Los Angeles. This opens the track into something bigger: that weird, frustrating feeling of watching yourself repeat patterns you swore you had already outgrown.
The music video directed by Sebastian Johnson-Deal, is aligned with the vibes the song gives off – chaotic visuals merged with the emotional dynamism of the track.
With “Groundhog Day,” Anna Thoresen proves that sometimes the most interesting and sought-after songs come from sitting inside the mess instead of trying to clean it up.
