Matt Herzog is redefining blues rock with single “Don’t Wait For Me” off his new EP “Under The Stack”. The song is playful, radiant and oozes coolness from the very first note. Being the opening single of the EP, I think its frolic is what sets the mood of the record. The track has has the attitude of a classic rock number and the aura of a blues anthem. But if you listen closely, you’ll hear something fresh in the mix every few seconds , keeping the whole ride exciting from start to finish.
One second you’re nodding along to crunchy blues-inspired guitar riffs, and the next you’re caught up in a groove that feels ready for the dance floor. That’s how versatile this song is and fits well into the overall mood and soundscape of the EP.

Oh and by the way, these are not the only interesting things about the track. The song makes effortless use of Hammond organ that adds subtle warmth and a vintage touch that fans of old blues rock will absolutely dig. The production is also crazy. It keeps things vintage with a modern touch. That balance maybe hard to nail but not for Herzog. He makes it sound so easy. There is unpredictability and harmony. You know, the combination that gives a song its cool quotient.
With this opener, Matt Herzog shows that sticking to one formula is overrated. “Don’t Wait For Me” is packed with personality, strong musicianship and enough surprises to keep you coming back for another spin.
