New Zealand-based producer Bravo Bonez teams up with vocalist Alba Rose for an enchanting new single TREASON. Bravo Bonez has two other musical projects, LearningToDive which makes music using 80s-90s influences, and Haikyo for his ambient cinematic work. Under his name, he releases his RnB, hip-hop, and beats music. Working out of Wellington, his 2020 EP Love Blast Lounge was truly a magical work of music.
The song was co-written with Alba and co-produced with Greg Haver, who adds additional drums. Simon Gooding, who also plays guitar on the track, has mixed the song with perfection blending all the myriad elements aptly. The song is in the acid jazz and Neo-soul style, an ode to 90s UK chart toppers.
Jazz flutes, strings, and horns combine to weave a magical tapestry of sounds. With some strings and the loud thud of some low-end piano begins the song. The strings and other elements work so that an interesting groove is established. As the vocals by Alba enter, we are treated to a heavenly wave of string sections. The tones sound incredibly beautiful on this track. The song lyrically deals with themes of love and deception.
Layered production with stunning vocals and harmonies make this song a delight to the ears. Various elements mix and settle into a dense and airy arrangement that uplifts the listener. TREASON has been compared to music by The Brand New Heavies and to a James Bond theme. However, we can safely affirm that Bravo Bonez spins a novel magical tune in a familiar sonic dialect.
