Kid Again delicately crafts ambience on the Folk track “Unwinding”

Kid Again is the brainchild of songwriter and music producer of Aaron Newberry. The idea behind the project is an endearing one; to create with the freedom one has as a child when the idea and presence of judgement does not weigh on you so heavily. All innovation is the result of people daring to step outside boundaries and the spirit of forging a unique path is reflected in the artist’s 2023 single “Unwinding”.

It feels like the sonic intention of “Unwinding” is to create an atmosphere which its subdued use of elements makes apparent. The production and mixing are detail oriented, carefully crafted and really puts an effort into curating the listener’s experience. The track has the ambience of hope and its use of many instruments like the flute, strings, maraca and keys carefully craft a delicate journey. The feeling one is left with is that of floating in the sea.

The layered vocals that have whisper-like tonalities and leave tingling sensations never feel singular. The chaotic electronic production on the bridge is unexpected and adds versatility to the single. The enchanting theme of the track is only enhanced by the equally mysterious cover art.

The song-writing is poetic and feels like the description of being completely at ease with a moment in time; acknowledging growth from the past and hoping to discover in the future. It feels like it is constantly looking to be in communication with “somebody” by reaching out and through letter. This somebody can even be oneself. Its existential undertones are revealed in lines like “What it is we are looking for”
