About the Artist
Silverlinings, the third studio album by Australian alt-rock trio Verticoli, arrived on November 6, 2025. The Hobart-based three-piece built its reputation on gritty guitars, emotionally direct vocals and relentless touring. They have supported major Australian acts like Kingswood, DZ Deathrays and British India while earning praise for high-energy live sets. This time, they explore how adulthood, disappointment and change collide with the persistent urge to stay hopeful. Additionally, the album uses the concept “every cloud has a silver lining” to confront difficult experiences while suggesting that something good can still emerge from what goes wrong.
The album features 12 tracks: A Kick in the Teeth, Milk & Honey, Trash King, Be Three, Birds of Prey, See You Around, The Seams, Make It Your Own, Home, Another One, Sleep, and Summer. It maintains the theme of finding light in darker corners, yet never shies away from frustration or vulnerability.

The Album
A Kick in the Teeth opens the album with a hit of raw energy. Guitars bite, drums punch forward and the band turns frustration into propulsion, not theatrics. It chases passion and exposes the toll of touring. Then Milk & Honey shifts into something grungier and grim. The line, “If you wanna be free, you need a lot of money,” calls out capitalism without dressing it up. After that, Trash King snarls with jagged riffs and a tempo that never quite sits still. It’s about feeling like absolute garbage in life sometimes yet still pushing through. Next, Be Three moves into a more rhythmic, conversational groove. The band layers interlocking guitar parts with syncopated bass and steady drums to create a rising sound. The lyircs, “If I can split myself…maybe I could be three,” talk about pushing your limits and then the need to jump over that too.
Following that, Birds of Prey descends into darker, heavier tones. The lower-register guitar tones and more open drum patterns create an atmosphere of mystery. The imagery in the lyrics, “Birds of Prey circling overhead, can’t they see that I am…dead?” is bleak. Meanwhile, See You Around pulls everything back. It lingers, almost like a memory that refuses to leave. It holds heartbreak gently, still carrying a flicker of hope. This track functions as a midpoint pause that deepens the record’s human perspective.

Next, The Seams explores fracture and repair. The ticking-drum opening flike time running out. The lyrical images highlight the tiny places where life wears thin, “the world is splitting at the seams…I try to find the strength to carry on.” Additionally, Make It Your Own punches forward with fast drums and sharp intention. It hands responsibility straight to you—take it, don’t wait for anyone else. Home follows with distance and defiance. Lines like “Mother I ain’t never comin’ home. Maybe I’m better off alone” float like someone already gone. However, Another One swings back with anger and ache. It questions why good people leave early while the cruel stay. It sounds raw, like truth said through clenched teeth.
After that, Sleep slows down but not peacefully, it sounds desperate, like wanting rest and not finding it. The reverb, the space, the quiet, it feels like 3 a.m. when your mind won’t shut up. Lastly, Summer closes the album with an uplift. It sounds like relief, like it’s a “brand new day” and you can let go of whatever yesterday was. The track functions as both summary and soft promise, sending the listener out with cautious optimism.
Finally, Silverlinings doesn’t promise escape. Verticoli takes chaos, burnout, and disappointment and still says, there’s light, maybe small, but it’s there. And they don’t scream it. They just keep going.
