A digital B-Bender that modulates – the Casio Dimension Tripper has finally reached its crowdfunding goal in Japan!
One of the rather unusual highlights of NAMM 2024, the Casio Dimension Tripper is the only wireless expression controller on the floor right now that can be operated from your guitar strap! Like a B-Bender but digital and apparently trippier.
Though not an unknown name in the guitar world, it has been a while we saw something string related from Casio. It is currently available as a part of the new crowdfunding campaign in Japan.
Greenfunding in Japan
Three Casio developers have worked on the Dimension Tripper for three years. And from what the response in Japan has been it looks like the work has been totally worth it. Since the first articles and videos, that the crowdfunding goal (approx. 50,000 euros) was recently exceeded by the Japanese crowdfunding service Greenfunding.
How the Casio Dimension Tripper works
A prototype was shown at the NAMM 2024. Those who have tried the belt modulator seem to be quite impressed. In today’s pedalboards expression pedals that modulate individual pedal parameters or entire preset pedal changers are indispensable. What makes this Casio modulator special is you can control it from the guitar strap, thus allowing your feet to be free as you play.
The set comes with two modules, a pedal and a device that is placed between the belt and the belt attachment. Both are connected to Bluetooth 5. On pulling the guitar the device sends a modulation signal which makes the pedal on the ground emit two modulation signals.
Calibration, Cost and Availability
Although according to Endgadget , the device is being said to have a 20 milliseconds latency between movement and modulation, this is hardly noticeable. The guitar weight, upper body size and arm strength are some factors to be taken into consideration here. The spring in the device can be calibrated according to the player’s strength.
According to the crowdfunding campaign which is scheduled to go on till 31st January 2024, the Casio Dimension Tripper costs 31,680 yen (approx. 199 euros). Since Casio has achieved the target crowdfunding goal, the device should be available to us sooner or later!
