Just days after J.Cole dissed Kendrick Lamar on the new song “7 Minute Drill”, the American rapper headlined his annual Dreamville festival. The event took place at Dorothea Dix Park. Cole took some time to address the track, saying that he “felt terrible” after releasing the song.
Cole’s confessions on “7 Minute Drill”
“I’m so proud of that project”, said Cole. “Except for one part. It’s one part of that shit that make me feel like, man, that’s the lamest shit I ever did in my fucking life, right?” Cole was talking about his song “7 Minute Drill”. Cole had striked back against Lamar after the release. He even called the album “tragic”. But on Sunday, April 7th, Cole apologized for his “lame” and “goofy” response. “I ain’t gonna lie to y’all the past two days felt terrible,” he told an audience at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina. “I damn near had a relapse”.

“7 Minute Drill” was a reply to Kendrick Lamar’s hit single “Like That” in which Lamar talks about his dominance in the rap world. “That bazooka that was dropped on the motherfuckin’ game,” is how Cole addressed the song. He further went on to talk about his internal conflicts. “I was conflicted because, one, I know my heart—you know what I mean?—and, like, I know how I feel about my peers, these two n****s that I just been blessed to even stand beside in this game [Drake and Kendrick Lamar], let alone chase, chase they greatness, right? So, I felt conflicted ’cause I’m like, bruh, I know I don’t really feel no way. But the world wanna see blood!”

His last question to the crowd
Cole continued talking about it, saying he spiritually felt bad about it. As much as he was trying to feel competitive and friendly about the song, it seemed to not “sit right with my spirit” as he said.
After explaining himself, he threw a pair of questions at the North Carolina, crowd. “How many people think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest motherfuckers to ever touch a fuckin’ microphone?”, was his question. Dreamville, y’all love Kendrick Lamar, correct?” He gave his own answer, too: “As do I.”
