After 5 long years, deftones have finally announced the release of their tenth studio album ‘private music’. The band just dropped the lead track ‘my mind is a mountain’ this Thursday.
American metal giants deftones have announced the release of their upcoming studio album, their tenth one so far, called ‘private music’. The album is due for release on 22nd August, via Reprise and Warner Records.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for this for the last 5 years. The band has already released the lead track ‘my mind is a mountain’.
The soundscape can be described as their signature beauty meets the beast vibe. Fans will surely love coming back home once again! Even for such a short song, Stephen Carpenter’s guitar riff and Abe Cunningham’s digging percussion stay with you for a while. The lyrics, as deftones fans are used to, are somewhat best left to the listener’s interpretation.
Throughout the week, the band has been dropping cryptic images on their social media, only for fans to find out they are the lyrics of the new lead single when they finally dropped the release post. This also sets the idea for the kind of sound we will see the band explore in this new era.
Nick Raskulinecz, who has been behind albums like Diamond Eyes (2010) and Koi No Yokan (2012) has produced the album. deftones recorded and co-produced ‘private music’ in various locations in California, including Malibu and Joshua Tree, as well as Nashville, Tennessee.

Earlier this year, the band witnessed their most successful tour as yet, their first North American headline tour since 2022. Produced by Live Nation, deftones sold out legendary venues including Madison Square Garden, New York, and TD Garden, Boston.
The band just received several RIAA certifications as well. ‘White Pony‘ has received a certified 2x Platinum, while ‘Diamond Eyes‘ is now a certified Platinum. Notable singles “Change (In The House of Flies)” is RIAA Certified 4x-Platinum. Whereas “Be Quiet and Drive” is RIAA Certified 2x-Platinum.
