About the Artist
The Noah Peterson Soul-Tet is a South Texas ensemble led by alto saxophonist Noah Peterson, known for blending soul-jazz, blues, gospel, and rock-infused energy with organic chemistry and live immediacy. Their 2025 album The Real Deal is a nine-track exploration of groove, melody, and physicality, released with support from an Individual Artist Grant from the City of San Antonio.
The interplay between saxophone and organ grounds the record’s music in warmth and 1970s–1980s textures while remaining firmly present. Additionally, Peterson’s compositions drive it forward, layering gospel-inflected harmonies, bluesy phrasing, and rock-like energy to create a vibrant, modern soul-jazz experience. Each player reacts with precision and feel, making the ensemble both cohesive and alive.
Consequently, The Real Deal showcases the band’s ability to honor tradition while asserting a confident, contemporary voice, solidifying The Noah Peterson Soul-Tet as a key presence in today’s soul-jazz landscape.

The Album
The Real Deal opens with Biscuits and Gravy, a sunlit groove where percussion taps a cheerful cadence. It moves like a parade through the streets of San Antonio, warm, lively, and playful, yet carrying a grounded, effortless charm. Then, Ain’t No Way Hombre strides in swagger-filled and twangy, daring you to match its confidence. However, midway it melts into a mellow jazz groove, alternating between brash swagger and relaxed ease like a conversation you can’t help but lean into.
After that, Your Love is Mine drips honey-colored warmth, teasing and edging around the listener before curling in a slow, tender embrace. Meanwhile, I’m Gonna Be There Tonight grooves with urban soul, thick and physical, urging your body to move before your mind even fully registers. Next, Countdown City salutes San Antonio with a playful, preppy pulse, almost marching yet loose and swinging, evoking city streets alive with motion. Following that, Baby Don’t Cry slows the pace, a gospel-tinged ballad that swells with warmth, subtly tipping a hat to Amazing Grace without drifting into nostalgia.

Slow & Dirty and Swing and a Miss push the energy higher, pairing road-worn reflection with playful rhythmic drive, yet each song breathes with intention and restraint. Lastly, What’s Your Name arrives not as a simple closer, but as a moment of playful intimacy. The rhythm skips forward, light yet deliberate, coaxing movement without pressure. Its melody flirts and circles like a conversation at the end of a long, lively evening—curious, inviting, and warm—leaving you both smiling and lingering in the afterglow of the album’s energy.
Finally, The Real Deal celebrates soul-jazz in full, honoring its roots while asserting confidence and vitality in the present. Moreover, it flows seamlessly, shifting moods and textures while maintaining cohesion. Altogether, the album feels lived-in, vibrant, and fully alive, so listeners can experience the music as both tradition and contemporary expression. In addition, the record rewards repeated listens, revealing new grooves, subtle interactions, and playful musical moments with every spin. With this release, The Noah Peterson Soul-Tet proves that soul-jazz remains a living, breathing art form that commands attention and invites participation.
