“Isolation” is the latest release by British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, performer, “walking jukebox” and now German citizen, Jody Cooper. Often-hailed as a one-man indie pop activist, keep reading for my thoughts on how he brings his signature sound to the fore in his latest track!
It’s easy to find oneself lost in the labyrinths of layers and melodies that Jody creates on this track. There are so many elements, and a lot of rich detail in the track, even though, from the outset, it still retains an approachable, easy-listen sound. There is a lot to like here– Jody’s vocals, as well as the choice of instrumentation; from the gentle piano in the intro reminding one of “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay– forming the perfect kind of bedrock for Jody’s vocals to take over. And when they do, they do so rather nicely.

Once the percussion instruments enter the scene, the drumming sets us into a steady rhythm backed by the lead guitar in the background, humming quietly away as the energy of the song finds itself building up into a steady chorus, which plays very well with the energy dynamics of the song.
The production of the song entails a lot of elements like the clean electric guitar, as well as the pianos and some gentle atmospheric work going on in the background, and the mix manages to place just the right amounts of emphasis on these individual elements, and they all come together to create quite a cohesive atmosphere that envelops you like a velvet glove.

In conclusion, “Isolation” by Jody Cooper is the kind of song that I would find myself kicking up on the stereo when I’m in the mood to take a long drive late at night, and just let loose.
