The Happiness and Derek Clegg – This is your life | Aesthetic

The Happiness & Derek Clegg is a duo consisting of a Polish music producer and an American songwriter from Chicago, who thanks to joining forces created this moving song. Their music has more grit and less of an eye towards commercial success. Artists that focus on the music rather than their appeal have much more creative success. ‘This is your life’ is an aesthetic, an attitude, and an anthem.

“It happens once. This is your life!”

The mixture of acoustic and electronic instrumentation definitely shows Derek Clegg’s craft as a songwriter in tracks like this. The horns were a great addition here. Some shimmering guitars send out a striking sound on. The music had a lot of layers that overlapped to give a very textured and nuanced sonic display.

The fulcrum of the track is the lyrics. The mood of every aspect of the instrumentation in this track exactly matches the story line of the vocals. Starting off with a tone of melancholy, this turns into a really peppy single that can put you in just the right mood on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

This is simply an astonishingly aesthetic debut. Right from the artwork to the impeccable production and song writing.  Perfectly slight and disarmingly honest, ‘This is your life’ is a curious but utterly exquisite thing.  It is a warm bath of emotion and the captivating vocals make it one of those tracks that you can just listen on repeat.
