Dark and Melodic: Exploring Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L’s ‘Recovery 2’ EP

Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L, an artist rooted in Brooklyn, crafts music that embodies the sensation of a high-speed journey without any safety nets—an exhilarating and risky adventure that he deeply comprehends. His entrance into the realm of music was set in motion by a drag racing incident, sparking his zeal for artistic expression and molding his unique sonic identity—stripped-down, indulgent, and shadowy. On his latest project, a 3-piece EP called “Recovery 2”, he takes this sound further, and to the next level. Keep reading for my thoughts!

The EP opens with “Caution”, a track with Breon’s signature dark hip-hop and RnB style, with a definite melodic influence playing a rather important role. There are a lot of smart elements at play here, and the adlibs reminded me of an early Travis Scott track. the spacey reverbs, and the detailed, layered production quickly becomes a theme throughout the album, as echoed on the second track, “Without Love”.

“Without Love” stands out as a bit of a darker number, with a more definite trap influence in the sound permeating the listener’s ears. As the bars elapse, Breon speaks about motivational themes, and themes of hard work and hustle, which was quite respectable in my opinion. The album closes out with “Hit & Run”, a more melody-focused work that brings the elements of the previous two songs together quite nicely.

The production remains consistently high-quality all across the three tracks, with appreciable attention to detail and use of great techniques in the creative and technical sectors. The mixes are tight and powerful, with enough room on the sides to make for nice, floaty reverbs, delays, and such effects.

In conclusion, Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L’s “Recovery 2” EP takes listeners on a dark and melodic journey through his signature style. With tracks like “Caution,” “Without Love,” and “Hit & Run,” he skillfully combines motivational themes and trap influences to create a captivating listening experience. Throughout the EP, the production shines with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in tight mixes and immersive soundscapes. Check out “Recovery 2” here:
