Veteran Producer Miti Adhikari, Who Recorded Artists like Nirvana and Foo Fighter Passes Away

‘Silver Fox’ Miti Adhikari passed away at 69 years after post-surgery complications. Adhikari had worked with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead and more.

Renowned music producer and sound engineer, Miti Adhikari passed away at the age of 69 years. Sources close to him have confirmed the news. Adhikari was fighting post-surgery complications. Known as ‘Silver Fox’, the goa based producer was known for producing songs for eminent bands. The names include Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Coldplay and Foo Fighters.

Adhikari shaped some of the most iconic live performances of all time, thus leaving behind a legacy. He spent over 34 years with BBC, working as the chief sound engineer at the iconic Maida Vale studios.

Growing up in Kolkata, Adhikari started out as a bassist for a city band. A 20 year old Adhikari landed a job as an assistant studio manager at the BBC, thanks to a family friend. He eventually emerged as one of the most influential behind-the-scenes figures in British music broadcasting.

Adhikari was barely a name among the Indian audience until the Foo Fighters dedicated a song to him at the Reading and Leeds festival. A video of this posted online created quite a buzz. After over 34 years of working with festivals like Glastonbury and Live 8, in 2014, the producer decided to return to India.

Adhikari had already been working with some Indian artists like cousin Neel Adhikari and film projects with Qaushiq Mukherjee aka Q (Tasher Desh). He had also worked with Kolkata based indie band The Supersonics for their debut album. Other indie Indian artist names he collaborated with include The Ganesh Talkies, Menwhopause, The Ska Vengers, and Nischay Parekh.

Adhikari’s 2012 retirement from BBC saw tributes from Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters to Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys. After his death, a lot of tributes have been coming in from eminent artists from the Indian music community. Musicians have taken to Instagram to honor the veteran, from guitarist-composer Susmit Sen to funkrock band Gingerfeet.
