“Stay”, by Lierda: Unwind with smooth RnB

Comprising of two artists of Lebanese-Canadian origin, the duo Lierda consists of Adrien Charafeddine as the singer and Jeil Eid handling the composition. Their primary musical style revolves around creating an atmosphere characterized by a blend of downtempo hip-hop and R&B. Their latest release, “Stay”, brings us the best of their sound– keep reading for my thoughts!

The whole song has an aura of peace and gentle love; with clever use of vocal effects in the intro backed by a minimal fingerstyle guitar riff, that serves as both the melodic and percussive base of the song. As the layers slowly start building around you, you feel yourself drawn into a cloud with gentle reverb, while the vocals hold everything together till the drop.

When the beat does drop, it does so with gentle power and presence. The bass rings low and round, with the tempo still remaining firmly within easy-listening realms. Adrien does a skilful job with the vocals and the production backs it up with soothing choices in the instrumentation that make “Stay” a smooth, but overall very engaging listen. There are a good number of auditory easter eggs that take the ears by surprise even a multitude of listens in, and that is what I look for.

Overall, “Stay” is the kind of song I would unwind to after a long day at work because the energy balance is just about right for that– striking the Goldilocks zone in that respect. Check out “Stay” by Lierda here!
