Oaken Wires “Footprints” Captures the Fragile Pull of Connection

Oaken Wires is a North London–based duo featuring producer and singer Oaken Lee and CutWires. They’re known for blending folk storytelling with progressive production. Their latest track, Footprints, featuring Oaken Lee and CutWires, highlights an evolving sound through acoustic guitars, drum machines, and layered textures. It continues an exploration of songwriting and experimental arrangement through a self-defined folk-rock mixtape approach.

Footprints opens like a half-remembered dream, with distorted vocals and acoustic textures that feel cracked and warm at the same time. From the first lines, it frames life and relationships as something swimming against time itself, “Born with the Autumn tide. Upstream as two.”

Then as the percussion sets in, distant synths ripple like light across water, softening the weight of the day, turning the struggle into a gentle flow. Every refrain carries both weariness and reassurance, about how presence matters more than leaving a mark, “No footprints in the sand. But I don’t look since you took my hand.”

Yet the chorus grounds the listener in shared resilience, “But it’s alright and it’s okay. ’Cos I’ve got you.” It becomes a lifeline, turning struggle into something bearable and reaffirming the bond at the song’s heart.

And by the end, the song has carried you through wind, water, and memory. You’re wet, cold, maybe exhausted, yet steadied by the presence beside you. Even when the world feels heavy, even when the tide threatens to pull you under, the bond holds—fragile, enduring, unshakeable.

Footprints leaves you suspended in that moment, a quiet reminder that connection can anchor you when everything else drifts away.
