“Dolphin Waves”, by Dylan Tauber: Serene, peaceful experimental music

Meet Dylan Tauber, a seasoned and award-winning electronic musician, cyberartist, photographer, and author with a remarkable career spanning over two and a half decades. A graduate of Columbia University in 1996, Dylan’s artistic journey has taken him across the vibrant landscapes of NYC, Jerusalem, Miami, a remote Pacific island, and now a kibbutz in northern Israel, where he currently serves as the Artist-in-Residence. Join us as we talk about his latest release, “Dolphin Waves”, and delve a little deeper into his prolific career.

With a journey spanning almost 30 years, Dylan has stayed devoted to his art and of it, 18 albums are what he gifted the world; and on “Dolphin Waves”, he takes us through a wild journey of genres, moods, and styles– from laid back, chill hip-hop to club-inspired dance anthems, this album truly has it all. From the opener, “Journey Of The Dolphins”, we’re introduced to the smooth-moving nature of this album; a theme that will still manage to hold together despite the genres in the songs to come. It’s very well-executed, and Dylan’s vocal layering brings whole other dimensions to the way this song sounds and feels.

“Vamos” by Proklaim: This man just gets better and better at rap every day!

We take a bit of a turn into electronic dance music territory with the title track, “Dolphin Waves”, with grooving, energetic vocals that would immediately put one in the realms of the seas, as the beat slowly and steadily builds up to a chill confluence that is indeed very satisfying to listen to, when it does come around. “Beneath Azure Skies” brings a vivid painting of the scenery Dylan puts us in, when it all resolves into a downtempo, almost neo-wave-like sound with potent low-end, and effortless layering of the keys on top, that makes it a great listen.

As we step into “Ocean Dreams”, we’re driven to the world of chill, wafty pads layered one over the other to create a warm, inviting blanket of sound that effortlessly surrounds you, much akin to the ocean itself; and at this point, the production gets commendations for its great thematic consistency; one song flows into the other like it’s not the very hard to achieve thing; yet, Dylan gets it just perfect on “Dolphin Waves”.

As we start to draw the album to a close, we’re met with “Dylan Son Of Waves”, a more downtempo/deep house number that provides a window into experimentation here; the drops flow into each other elegantly (yes, I’m still making ocean metaphors), and it blends together rather nicely. The curtain call, “Dylan And Carmen” adopts an even more energetic melodic future bass sound, and we’re fans!

The production on “Dolphin Waves” is diverse, spanning a wide variety of genres, and overall, manages to calm and relax the soul when you listen to it. Check out the album here:
