Rising Tides and Quiet Storms: Pisgah’s “Cumulonimbus”

Pisgah is the solo project of singer-songwriter Brittney Jenkins, based in Greater London since 2015. Having grown up in the American South, she draws inspiration from artists like Ryan Adams, Songs: Ohia, Aimee Mann, Emma Ruth Rundle, etc.

Moreover, she blends alt-country roots with alt-rock and gothic textures, writing songs that explore personal tragedies, natural disasters, and family loss over shimmering electric guitars and driving percussion. She recently released her latest single, Cumulonimbus, on September 5, 2025. Her follow-up album, Faultlines, is set to arrive independently in November 2025.

Cumulonimbus opens with delicate tambourine taps, immediately setting a luminous tone. Then, airy vocals drift in, like a cool breeze before a storm. Carrying intimacy and calm that contrasts with the emotional weight building underneath. Meanwhile, the guitar glows with vintage warmth and slightly washed-out distortion, leaning into a nostalgic 90s feel while keeping the mood reflective and personal.

Additionally, the lyrics deepen this atmosphere with vivid emotional imagery. “How I’m accumulating waves like a cumulonimbus cloud,” captures the slow gathering of pressure and tension. Turning the storm into a reflection of personal struggles and the complicated bonds that shape us. While, “Dreaming of a desert thousands of miles away,” extends the reach of longing, folding distance, memory, and the complex dynamics of family into desire.

Towards the end of the track, layered vocals swell and build a dense, immersive soundscape that mirrors a storm. Landing the line, “Blood is thicker than water or so you say”, with quiet force brings the song’s emotional currents back to family and the ties that bind us.

Finally, Pisgah doesn’t just sing about weather; she transforms it into an emotional landscape. Cumulonimbus doesn’t clear the skies—it leaves them charged, unsettled, and unforgettable.
