Post Malone Pays Homage to Guwahati : “Zubeen Garg’s Homeland” in Debut Solo Headliner

While the setlist included their biggest hits like “Rockstar” and “Sunflower”, Post also remembered to stop for a moment to pay his respects to late Assamese music icon, Zubeen Garg.

One of the world’s favourite genre-bending artists, Post Malone, took the stage last Sunday, 7th December at Khanapara Veterinary Ground, Guwahati, India. This was a significant milestone in the live entertainment sector for North-east India. The show was produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live in collaboration with the Government of Assam.

The opening set was by none other than Kayan, with her warm vocals and a trans-genre soundscape, perfect to set our mood for Post Malone. Her set included her most popular songs like “Cool Kids” and “Good Kinda Love”, a blend of soulful R&B and a foot-tapping indie organic touch.

Right after this, it was Post Malone’s turn to take the electricity notches higher. Wearing the coolest T-shirt with an Indian map on it, with a sketch of the majestic Taj Mahal on top! Right from the moment he hit the first chord on his beautiful white acoustic guitar, the crowd could instantly feel the connection. His signature blend of rap, rock, folk, and country got fans singing along to the lyrics to every song. The performance included major hits like ‘Rockstar’, Congratulations’, ‘Circles’, and ‘Sunflower’.

American music icon Post Malone's performance in India

At one point during the performance, Post Malone even paused his concert to pay tribute to the late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, who died earlier this year. The act saw fans all across the performance ground applauding and cheering for their favorite artist.

As Naman Pugalia, Chief Business Officer – Live Events at BookMyShow, points out, the event in Guwahati “showcases the continued evolution of India’s live entertainment landscape. Post Malone’s ability to draw audiences across generations and cultures reflects a new India confident, connected and firmly positioned within the global music ecosystem. The overwhelming response from the Northeast reaffirms what we have long believed: the country’s cultural appetite is expanding rapidly, with emerging regions proving ready to host world-class talent.”

With over 2,800 personnel deployed for crowd and operations management, showing how big of an event this was, the night marks a growth in demand for global music acts across tier-2 cities in North-eastern India.
