Mayhem Announces New Album ‘Liturgy Of Death’ – Lead Single Out Now!

Loss, fear of death, powerlessness, and frailty of existence – these sum up the theme for Mayhem’s new album ‘Liturgy Of Death’, out this February. Lead single video “Weep For Nothing” out now!

Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem have announced their seventh studio album, ‘Liturgy Of Death’, to be released on February 6th, 2026, via Century Media. Furthermore, teaser track “Weep For Nothing” is out now!

The track starts with outright attacking riffs and then shifts into slower moments of melancholy in between, with an opera-prog feel a bit later into the track. Versatile vocalist Attila Csihar shifts between harsh raps and fairly clean vocals as the instrumentations change. With how the lyrics read, we can say the song definitely revolves around the inescapability of death.

With “Liturgy Of Death”, Mayhem appears to retain that position that fans love them for, once again, but with few thematic twists. This time, the band explores loss, fear of death, frailty of existence, and powerlessness, all through a steadfast and unrelenting point of view.

Mayhem: Recent Works : Studio + Live

Their last album Daemon (2019) had brought them back to their roots after a while, with a raw and brutal sound, as compared to the earlier experimental works. The lineup also remains the same as last time – Csihar (vocals), longtime members Necrobutcher (bass) and Hellhammer (drums), and guitarists Ghul and Morten (aka Teloch).

What we can expect here is that dark and unrelenting sound that captures the essence of the band. Forty-one years since their formation, Mayhem continues to shape the sound of Norwegian black metal.

September 2023 also saw a live album release – “Daemonic Rites”.
