As the final act for her “Celebration Tour“, Madonna put on a massive free show for around 1.6 million fans at Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana Beach last Saturday night. It was the pop star’s only performance in South America for this retrospective world tour – the “Celebration” tour. The night gathered the biggest ever live crowd in her entire career! Rio de Janeiro’s official tourism agency Riotur estimated the number of attendees to be around 1.6 million.
The “Celebration” Tour was the twelfth concert tour by the American singer. It began on October 14, 2023, at the O2 Arena in London. It was Madonna’s first all-arena tour since 2016 and maybe that was reason enough to make it one of the world’s fastest selling concert tours.
Madonna has not performed in Brazil since 2012, and it is no wonder that she was so excited. The internet saw the pop star taking to Instagram to express her excitement. “Words cannot express my gratitude!” she wrote in a caption to a drone video showing the beachfront packed with fans.
The other shows of the tour saw Madonna invite local stars to perform with her onstage. Like in Rio, her guests were Brazilian performers Anitta and Pabllo Vittar. Madonna performed a samba version of her track “Music” with Pablo Vittar.

Copacabana beach has always been a favorite place for music stars to attract huge crowds. The Rolling Stones had played a concert at the beach in 2006 for an estimated 1.5 million fans, while Rod Stewart has had a whopping 4,2 million people attending his 1994 New Year’s Eve show!
