About the Artist
Based in Nashville, TN, Kristen Castro is a queer Mexican-American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. She fuses indie pop lyrics with ambient textures while moving through folk, Americana, pop, electronic, and country. As a result, she creates a sound that feels reflective, ethereal, and deeply personal.
Castro draws influence from artists like LÉON, The Japanese House, and MARO. However, she continues to stand apart by shaping her songs with emotional honesty and layered production. At the same time, she invites listeners to step into a space that feels both ethereal and grounded.

The Album
Kristen’s entirely self-made new album, Capricorn Baby, arrived on September 3, 2025, after five years in the making. Moreover, it chronicles her journey of self-discovery, exploring themes of romance, heartbreak, love, sexuality, and intimacy. The album features nine tracks, with three singles: Malibu, Summer Rain, and Amsterdam, arriving ahead of the release. Meanwhile, the remaining six songs: Tarot, Hope Is the Thing With Feathers, Pegasus (with Emma Barge), Sun Sign (She’s so Scorpio), Amor & Psyche (Stripped), and the title track Capricorn Baby (with Deb Talan of The Weepies) — debuted with the full release.
First, Amsterdam, opening the album with soothing vocals and gentle acoustics. The song paints a dreamlike day in a city that is cold yet sunny, thawing listeners’ hearts as they wander through streets bathed in light. Then, Malibu sweeps in like ocean waves, the guitar and melody inviting freedom, a drive with the wind in your hair, ready to “throw out darkness.” Next, Summer Rain washes over like relief after hot days, cleansing the heart and signaling the first step toward letting go of hurt.
Afterward, the story deepens with introspection and enchantment. Tarot begins with crystal-clear vocals: “I get so disconnected waiting for you. I detach my emotions,” mirroring the fascination of trying to read someone’s mind while falling for them. Meanwhile, Hope Is the Thing With Feathers, the album’s only instrumental, lifts listeners into a vast blue sky, offering calm and reflection. Soon after, life pulses back in Pegasus: “Love is a drug that I can’t stop needing,” reminding listeners that energy and hope return. Then, Sun Sign (She’s so Scorpio) radiates warmth like gentle sunshine, signaling new beginnings: “I finally feel alive.”

Finally, the album turns inward toward acceptance and transcendence. Amor & Psyche (Stripped) hypnotizes with the reassurance: “It’s okay to have a scary past,” guiding listeners through life together. The journey reaches serenity in the title track, Capricorn Baby, where the arrangement cradles listeners, lifting them into calm and reassurance. “I’m fighting the need to always be perfect. What’s that anyways?” The vocals lead through reflection, renewal, and self-acceptance, leaving a sense of quiet joy and grounded hope.
Overall, each track reflects her process of becoming, a reminder that growth often comes through vulnerability. Capricorn Baby does not simply showcase Castro’s skills. Instead, it charts her evolution and affirms her choice to remain proud and grounded in her queer identity.
