“Church Basement” by Cassidy Dickens: Pop with Angelic harmonies, simple themes, great execution

Cassidy Dickens, a singer-songwriter currently residing in Nashville but hailing from the mountainous region of southern West Virginia, continues to refine her craft and delve deeper into her musical style with her latest track, “Church Basement” . Read on for my thoughts!

Cassidy’s sound, over the months, has steadily been moving towards a more and more distinctive and unique identity, and I’m pleased to report that only stands truer with “Church Basement”. From the harmony-rich vocals that give this song an almost angelic sound, to the gentle guitars in the background that play perfect support to the themes unfolding. Cassidy’s singing stands out as a definite highlight on this song, her soothing and gentle style of telling stories striking deep chords in me right from the first bar.

The production remains delightfully minimalistic, letting the vocals take the centre stage, with the occasional chime of church bells, and the warm fuzz of strings and pads in the background making the sound that much thicker and substantial. There is a sense of cohesion and togetherness in the song made possible because of the production, and that is something I quite appreciated.

The mixing and mastering on the track remain straight and gentle, with great use of reverbs and choruses to lend weight to the sound, filling the space and field quite comfortably, the result sounding peaceful, serene, and graceful. In conclusion, “Church Basement” by Cassidy Dickens is a further evolution of her sound and craft, and I can’t wait to see where this evolution leads us. Check out the song here!
