Xavier Bernazard connects with music in more ways than most. They have created tracks that are meaningful, melodically sound and absolutely kick-ass in a way that I wouldn’t say about the Spotify Top 20 right now. Right now, the themes come together for Halloween as they release their latest single, Balloons For My Funeral.
Collaborating with The Deadly Beloved, these tracks have an aura of comfort and searing truth about them. The lyrics for Enemy are a simple but evident sign. The alt-rock anthems pushes through the glass ceiling made by society and themselves. It carries a powerful prowess, maybe even potential for a change of psyche so that you aren’t standing in your way.
Hello shows the dynamic change in Xavier Bernazard and their compositions. The stark isolation of the vocals and plain instrumentals create a solemn background for the song. Strings aid to create spiritually sound moments. Loose End uses simple beats to reflect the lyrics. The piano stands out, almost harmonizing with Xavier’s pained voice. As the guitars enter, there is a darkness and energy to the track that is catapulted from the darkest depths of their personality.
Converging through emotions
XOXO approaches and reflects on a new theme. There are plenty of dynamics explored by the genres and themes flowing as well. They are emotional whispering wells, a craft that fits a song like a tailored suit and could not shift essence or meaning. You Left Me features alternating vocals, showing us two sides of the coin. Alyssa Gillen and Xavier Bernazard create a superbly thematic, reflective track that has rounded edges and a story that strips the glamour around fiction.
Summer Nostalgia creates a soft, meadow breeze for a sound, layering vocals and instrumentals-foreshadowing the track’s theme that would be next. Restart is the next track, with relatable feelings and aspects people discuss with their mind every day. There is a clarity to these emotions, designs and energies that come together for this track. Xavier has a lyrical strong hand that leads these tracks, as they control the intangible space that surrounds the song.
Xavier chooses to make a tectonic shift in genres with De Mi. It is a beautiful track influenced and punctuated by Spanish vernacular elements. The Western instruments create an incubating, generous environment for their vocals. Push & Pull describes the dynamics of a relationship with the magic experienced. The simple, ballad formed track has some strong crashes and lifts, building on Xavier’s melodic vocals.
A soul searching stir
Hero Song might be one of the best attack openings. All instrumental, it features the drums and guitar in all its glory. There is a furious flow to it, shifting between acoustic to hard rock kicks. It is fun and an easy addition to your album favourite highlights. Ponyboy has a post-punk zeal to the track that keeps growing organically. The instrumental work is easily the highlight, the breaks from the guitar stand out just by the work. The tones really feel like embossing on this wondrous ivory sheet.
Xavier Bernazard changes the pace again with Don’t Run Away-Funeral Version. It is a lively, emotional track with a twist on their 2021 EP Anastasis. The Deadly Beloved did their role with a powerful mastery, an omniscient presence on this album with the swing and chops Xavier can really jam to. Balloons For My Funeral wraps this album up, creating an amazing bookmark for the ages. The mix between their comfort language and English makes this so much more than a song. This is an album Xavier Bernazard can stand behind with pride, a collaboration that is for the ages, yet reinforces their voice. Listen to their standout album here:
