Bursting onto the music scene this past year, The Pop Fish Band bing influences from all the way across Italy and Mexico into their music, culminating in a high-energy, upbeat vibe that is sure to make anybody start groovin’ and vibin’ from the very start. Blending elements from rock-and-roll and upbeat, happy pop, they present their debut album, “Believe Again”— keep reading for my thoughts!
The whole of “Believe Again” finds itself brimming with energy right from the very beginning on the title track; and all throughout the album, the energy clutches on to eleven as the band journeys from motif to motif, from progression to progression, and keep the energy flowing in oodles all the way to the very end, on “The Beginning of a Long Story”, starting with the lyrics, “This is not the end…”, and every single track in the middle is unique in its own ways, with a gentle sprinkle of synths and feel-good guitars and mellotrons to unify the vibe and keep spirits sky-high. The album also benefits in the narrative from the use of sardonic, slap-stick themes in the lyrics, more notably the lines “When the cat sleeps, The mice dance non-stop” (Deep and Long Nap) and “I don’t know you but I don’t need it, I read the internet, internet. Thank goodness someone already thought for me.” (Sapiens Sapiens Man).

The production ensemble really pulls its weight on this album, with consistently high quality throughout the album, never once sounding out of sync with the rest of the album, and it makes for a nice and cohesive listening experience. The mixing and mastering are also great, with a wide, expansive sound that does not overly accentuate any particular range, making for a very well-balanced, well-engineered product that is fantastic to listen to.
“Believe Again” also finds itself dotted with guitar solos that are well-executed, and dramatic chorus passages that exude exuberance, and leave the listener charmed, and wishing for more.
