“Decadence”, by Kayze: A catchy, fun electro-pop album!

Indian rapper and producer Kayze burst onto the Hip-hop/R&B scene in 2022 with breakout hits “Bright Lights” and “Picture Perfect” from his debut project Issa Vibe. With a heartthrob audience following him closely over the course of the years, he now brings his latest release, “Decadence” — keep reading for my thoughts!

Based out of Arizona, Kayze brings a fresh sound with blends of electronic dance music, soul and pop music to the speakers on “Decadence” — and the sterling 7-track album is dotted with hits from start to finish. With the opener, “No Tomorrow” setting the stage quite nicely with its catchy production and flow, Kayze skilfully presents his half-sung, half-rhymed lyrics served atop a solid, punchy house beat that has bounce, life and poise. The vocal performance impresses with its tight recording, and the rest of the album follows suit rather impressively consistently, with standouts on tracks like the title, “Decadence”, that takes a bit of a more hardcore deep-house turn.

Step into the second track, “For A Night”, and you have a sober trap-infused hip-hop beat with guest artist Mu’Dogo gracing the verses, bringing his own flavour and lyricism to the fore, while Kayze stays on the beat, using skilful sound design and catchy choruses to keep the listener hypnotised. With a memorable melody, this one is an easy ear worm on “Decadence”.

Moving into “Never Enough”, the atmosphere on this album gets kicked up to eleven, with a very ambient ethereal sound that envelops you in the low, rumbling basses and the distant melodic layers that both build the stage and focus the energy on the vocals at the same time — a feat indeed, I’d say.

The production on this album remains consistently high quality, with more than a few examples of good sound design and production techniques bubbling and ebbing to the surface at every turn. The vocal performances throughout “Decadence” inspire, tell stories, and do so while having a presentation that one would find very well executed indeed.

As we bring the album to a close with tracks like “Dangerous”, the title track, “Decadence”, and “Singularity”, you’re reminded of the versatility that Kayze possesses as a singer as well as a producer, with continued tasteful experimentation happening, keeping the ear candy fresh and aplenty; and the mixes are tight and well-done, keeping the vocals in place with the rest of the ensemble rather effortlessly. The master introduces a very glued-together, warm and inviting sound that you’re sure to enjoy during your time listening to “Decadence” — check out the album here!
