Saticöy - Nice & Easy

Saticöy – Nice & Easy |

Saticöy is a four-piece group of musicians, writers, and producers based out in Los Angeles. They write and produce all their music from their home studio in LA without pissing off their neighbours, specifically Mike. Creating Postmodern Indie Pop, Nasty Neo-Soul, and face-melting funk (Raiders style) Saticöy has got the groove to heal and bop. They create music that will have you relax and, at the same time, be functional.

Nice & Easy is a track that takes its title quite literally. The track is distinctly a fusion of Neo-Soul grooves, Funky bass (Jon) lines, and Indie melodies. The brass (Tim) instruments act like both percussive as well as harmonic elements that really drive the song home. I find the production (Jaron Takach) value strikes the right balance between organic and electronica, giving equal importance to both sides of the mix. The bass just SLAPS. The vocals and guitar (Derek Long) work are just super fine! Nice & Easy is the kind of track that you can just listen to over a cup of tea and work on your screenplay within a coffee shop. It’s the kind of track that gives you the motivation to get through work.

I can’t recommend this track more! Saticöy has outdone themselves with this track. I really can’t wait to hear more of their music. We also managed to score an interview with this very talented group of musicians. Read on more to hear from Saticöy themselves.

What are some of the methods you guys use to write a track?

Generally, we start with one element, usually guitar/keys/synth progression or an interesting drum beat. Then, while the band work out their parts, Derek will either write something to himself or the band will collaborate on melody and lyric ideas until everyone is happy with the result.
Conceptiually? Start with the why. Why do we need to write a song? Who are we trying to connect with? What are we feeling and how do we want this to relate to others?

What comprises the Saticöy sound?

Lush synth and guitar interplay, relatable lyrics, slapping drums, and usually stacks of vocals. We try to play pretty loosely into genre, ranging anywhere from sultry soul/rnb to punk and grunge, but always with a tight pop sensibility.

It sounds like Nice & Easy has a lot of Soul and Jazz influence. How did you come about making the track?

We’ve all got a healthy love for jazz, funk, and soul, but our keyboard/saxophone player, Tim, was BORN IN IT. Haha, no but he is trained in and an enthusiast of those styles. He was the one who wrote the piano that eventually became Nice & Easy.

What is Nice & Easy all about?

Pretty simply, it’s about kicking back and taking it easy. It’s been a stressful couple of years, and we want to remind everyone that it’s ok to take a day off and enjoy yourself from time to time.

How has working together affected your personal relationships with each other?

It’s only strengthened it. Music, as the cliche goes, is just another language. The more you communicate with others, the more chemistry you build and the closer you become. I think it’s safe to say we are each others best friends out here.

What is next for Saticöy?

We have a music video dropping this week and an EP at the top of 2022! Otherwise, we’re just getting our work done before taking the much needed holiday.
