“On This Night”, by Frank Joshua: A deep-house track to waft away, into the night

Bringing a delightful tinge of 80s electro pop to modern house music, Frank Joshua is no stranger to the studio, and to us at Sinusoidal– keep readng for my thoughts on his latest single, “On This Night”!

The whole track is filled with atmospheric influences that steadily rock-a-bye you into a downtempo, relaxed listening experience right from the get go– Frank’s deep baritone vocals building quite the scene, reminding me of the chart-buster “Ocean Drive” (remember that track? Good times, I’ll say); with a delightfully melodic take on the deep house/electro genre, with some elements of progressive house thrown in for good measure.

As the track develops, the energy does too, patiently; with a long, deliberate buildup reminiscent of the kinds of tracks one would listen to on the stereo in their car on a long drive underneath starlit skies; “On This Night”, quite the apt title for a track of this mood and genre.

The piano parts in the track fit seamlessly with the vocals that bring a ton of energy into the mix as the track evolves from texture to texture, from bar to bar; the focus on the drama and the emotion manifesting through the vocals, and the pianos in the background all rising in a steady, sweet crescendo until-

Until it drops; and when it does, it’s silken, and very smooth both from a perspective of energy control, as well as the melodic progressions that gradually evolve beautifully over the course of the track; and there’s much to appreciate about the mix and master here too, with its warm sound that still maintains an air of clinical precision; a demand placed by the deep house element in this track; and I’m glad to report it works out perfectly overall.

Listening to this track 40,000 feet in the air, the experience is something else altogether; starlit skies above, and inklings of civilisation miles below me; and there is no other track I’d rather have been listening to then; or now, if all I want to do is escape… “On This Night”.
