India bid farewell to one of its most iconic musical voices as Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, in Mumbai. She was 92. The veteran singer breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital after being admitted a day earlier following a cardiac arrest, compounded by a chest infection and exhaustion. Hospital authorities later confirmed multi-organ failure as the cause of death.
The younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, her career spanned over seven decades, during which she recorded more than 12,500 songs across multiple languages. Asha Bhosle began singing at the age of 10 and went on to become one of the most versatile playback singers in Indian cinema.
Her extraordinary repertoire included timeless classics from films like Umrao Jaan, Teesri Manzil, and Rangeela, showcasing her ability to effortlessly adapt to diverse musical styles. Even in her later years, she remained active and beloved by fans, recently going viral for dancing to “Tauba Tauba” at a concert in Dubai.
Her last rites will be held on April 13 at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, where fans and members of the film fraternity are expected to gather in large numbers.
Tributes poured in from across the country, with actor Aamir Khan calling her passing “the end of an era.” Asha Bhosle’s legacy remains immortal, her voice continuing to echo through generations of Bollywood music.
