“Towers of Plain”, by Mark Leedham: An idyllic sea of ambient music!

Mark Leedham, after structuring his previous work on acoustic guitar, now delves into the realm of chill ambient music based on the clean electric guitar, on his latest work, “Towers of Plain”, and does a great job while at it– keep reading for my thoughts!

Crafted during Leedham’s travels through 21 countries, “Towers Of Plain” finds its roots on the Greek island of Anafi. This plays very well into the sound of the album, enveloping listeners in a mood of optimism and wanderlust– wondering what more is to come. This gets translated rather well on the opener, “Towers”; designed to capture your attention with its simplicity. A familiar chord pattern serves as the foundation, allowing the freestyling solo on the top line to shine. This composition radiates joy and energy, providing a bright and escapist listening experience that’s truly enjoyable.

More notable tracks on the album include “Grace Over Fire” that continues the calm serenity on “Towers of Plain”, while bringing in subtle changes in the structure and the dynamics throughout the song– there are more layers, as well as more textures that Mark experiments with; adding up to a continual feeling of oceanside serenity, expressed like no other. The softer tones of “Lake” follow, delicately incorporating hints of Jazz and Folk before the infectious aura and groovy rhythm of “Wonder” concludes the EP on a high note.

The production on “Towers Of Plain” retains a beautifully minimalistic theme, enveloping listeners in an idyllic sea of calm-natured optimism, that sounds carefully crafted from the ground up, with its sound; there’s love and attention to detail that bleeds from every note of this album, and it is an untold pleasure to listen to. The mix and master don’t disappoint, either, with carefully crafted effects on the guitars, and subtle rhythm-keeping going on from the delays, while the guitars swim in their own reverbs, adding up to what I found to be a very well-engineered album, from a production standpoint.

So, in conclusion, “Towers of Plain”, by Mark Leedham: a two-thumbs-up recommendation from me! Trust me, you won’t regret this one– check out the album here!
