Bengaluru based alternative rock act My Conscience pack a tight purple-tinged sonic punch with their debut single “Confessions“. The band is fronted by music producer, vocalist, and singer-songwriter Karthik Chennoji Rao aka ‘KC’ of Pineapple Express fame. KC is also a music director and playback singer in Kannada film music. The band also consists of his Pineapple Express bandmates Jyothish Mani on guitars and Ujwal KS on drums. Pineapple Express sound engineer Akash Shivakumar is also on guitars with Arunav Bhattacharjee from prog metal band Ksetravid on bass.

Right from the get-go, the keyboard synth riff keeps you hooked to the song. We move from tightly written introspective verses to a trippy pre-chorus which explodes into a hummable and catchy vocal refrain. The bridge section featuring some tasty growling by KC is the cherry on the icing in this delightful arrangement. The brilliant mixing and mastering by Jyotish Mani creates an incredibly rich sound. The song lyrically deals with a conversation with the psyche on addictions not only of substances but of societal validation, expectations, and mental health.
The vocal hook refrain for the song sprang up to KC at a birthday party. While composing, KC whipped up the main skeletal structure of the song which could be pulled off on vocals and acoustic guitar alone. After that, the band pitched in with feedback and there was an organic process to figure out the arrangement, production, and additions.
Accompanied by a vibrantly produced animated lyrical video by Aditya Bhat and Nihal Shetty, this is one song you would keep spinning!
