Picnic Lightning is an amazing band from the city of Fort Worth, Texas. They are a group of four extraordinary musicians, who have been flourishing in the music scene in Texas. Picnic Lightning was formed in 2013 and is putting out some amazing music for its fans. Their music can be described as a blend of modern rock and pop sounds, which can be also known as dessert punk.
The band consists of Cole Watkins on lead vocals and guitar, Thomas Ketchersid on vocals and guitar, John Cope on bass and vocals, and Cameron Navarro on drums and vocals as well. Picnic Lighting debuted with an ep called “Glided Youth” in 2014 and since has released many singles and an album. They are back with yet another masterpiece called “Youth Group”.
Let’s talk about the song and its ingredients in detail. The song starts with a riff on an electric guitar, panned on the left side. The riff is soft but played on a distortion effect, giving hints of rock. Soon the drums make an entry with the following instruments bass, piano, and guitar. The intro is just so sweet and toned down giving a perfect summer vibe. Soon the vocals kick in with the different guitar parts panned on both sides and in constant motion with drums. The song has major classical stuff from the 80s like the melody and the whole arrangement, yet it sounds super modern. There is an amazing hook in the song when the chorus comes in and harmonies. A guitar lead comes in after the last chorus and the song ends beautifully with a piano and distorted guitar. “Youth Group” is a very groovy and fun song perfect for the summer.
Picnic Lightning is a phenomenal band with talented musicians. Their music is quite different and very refreshing. It is highly recommended to listen to their new single “Youth Group”.
