Transistor – The Flurries | Festive

Its that time of the year again. Its Christmas season and a time for celebration and of course new music! Artists go out of their way to release festive themed music and usually end up steering away from their usual style. Transistor on the other hand have managed to infuse the Christmas spirit into their music. That too without having to change their style of music.

Transistor is an indie rock band formed in Birmingham, Alabama in 2019. Interestingly enough, the lead singers Patrick Davis and Drew Sikes met on a music app. This chance encounter led to the creation of Transistor with the addition of drummer JT Ward and bassist Mason Richardson. Their style stays true to the indie roots but has a few modern additions, rounding out their indie rock style.

The Flurries is their latest single and I think the band has come a long way from their first EP ‘The Palace’. They have refined their sound and created a wonderful festive track that has both excitement as well as that indie nostalgia.
Patrick Davis’ vocals catch me off guard as it sounds very similar to Kevin Parker. This single feels something like a collaboration between Coldplay and Tame Impala. The thing i like about ‘The Flurries’ is that it feels like a cauldron filled with a dash of every indie bands elements. The broth that is dished out is very well balanced and not overcrowded at any point.

As the song unfolds it builds slowly with elements. There’s some additional bass, drums and more that come into the mix. It’s around the two-minute mark that the song builds, however there is one more breakdown before the finale where the song gets epic, reaches a crescendo and more or less ends where it started.

The music sounded familiar to me. There’s little experimentation but they definitely nail the style that they are going for. These are heartfelt tunes that I think a lot of people will appreciate.
