Gary Dranow is a favourite in my playlists at this point in time, with his slew of banger releases one after the other, as he continues his relentless pursuit of musical perfection. Bringing his unique take on blues rock to the table time and again, he inches closer and closer to greatness on his latest single, “Bodywise”– keep reading for my thoughts!
Right from the start of the song, there is much to appreciate about “Bodywise” in terms of its grace in simplicity, woth how Gary Dranow brings in a complete package of emotions using not very many instruments; the strummed acoustics interplay beautifully with the vocals as they’re kept gently in time by the nice, laid-back drum groove, and that is how the atmosphere for “Bodywise” gets set, and we’re settled into a comfortable, very whiskey and fireplace-like vibe. Teh vocal layers are used smartly and yield a whole load of power to the vocal presentation, and the counter melodies are done quite elegantly, too, preserving the essence of emotion in Gary’s lyrics, which too deserve special mention, especially for the themes of a narrative of a young girl that has yet to face the harsh ways of the world around us.

The production is a class act, with a beautiful minimalism surrounding the ethos of the song, and if i may say so, it works out just as the doctor ordered– the sound is velvety, smooth, and flows like glassy water atop pebbles in a stream; and it brings us to a sober realisation that the right production can make a single guitar weep a symphony; and this is all wrapped up quite beautifully by the mix and master, with its sterling clarity and power throughout.
So, “Bodywise” by Gary Dranow: An easy two-thumbs up recommendation goes out for this one! A pleasure to listen to, time and again. Check out the track here!
