Themes of shock, chaos, pain, rage, and isolation form the foundation of Coma Beach’s music. Their debut album, titled “The Scapegoat’s Agony,” alludes to Samuel Beckett’s works, hinting at an unconventional experience– and this time, they’re back with “Another Song”… if you’ll excuse my puns. Keep reading for my thoughts!
Encompassing iconic names like Sex Pistols, Ramones, Hüsker Dü, Joy Division, The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as Guns N’ Roses, Therapy?, and Bad Religion, Coma Beach’s music often blurs the boundaries between punk rock and alternative rock– and that is the case here too. Wild songwriting, layered on top of a primarily alt rock sound, is how I define this song. “Another Song” makes clever use of ringing guitars with a country-esque style, layered with a distinctive, almost conversation-like quality to the vocals, in the way that the main lyrics and the ad-libs seem to talk to each other through the duration of the song.

The lyrical themes reflect the band’s unmistakable inspirations, bordering on grunge, out-there ideas and songwriting really propelling this song with a sound of quite its own. The instruments find themselves layered quite richly, forming a solid base for the vocals, which are executed with a great amount of polish. The mix manages to keep everything tight and bound together well, with ample space for the multitude of elements that make up “Another Song”.
