Funk rock pioneers Red Hot Chili Peppers has sold its entire recorded music catalog to Warner Music Group for more than $300 million, according to reports from Billboard. The blockbuster agreement covers the band’s 40-year recording career and 13 studio albums, including iconic releases such as Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Californication, and Return of the Dream Canteen.
RHCP’s music is projected to earn $25–26 million annual revenue for WMG and Bain Capital!
The deal was completed through Warner Music Group’s $1.2 billion joint venture with investment firm Bain Capital, launched to acquire major music assets. The catalog is estimated to generate around $25–26 million annually in revenue, making it one of the most valuable rock music acquisitions in recent years.
The Los Angeles quartet: Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, Flea and Chad Smith — had already sold their publishing rights to Hipgnosis Songs Fund, now Recognition Music Group, for approximately $140 million in 2021.
The acquisition reflects the continuing boom in music rights investments, with major artists increasingly selling catalogs for massive payouts. In recent years, artists such as Justin Bieber and Bruce Springsteen have also signed similar high-value catalog deals.
