This month, Six-times Grammy Awards winner Kacey Musgraves and Reese Witherspoon of “Walk the Line” fame will debut a brand-new country music reality series on Apple TV+. In an effort to broaden the genre’s appeal, My Kind Of Country will make its streaming platform debut on March 24.
“When we got together a long time ago we were talking about how country music should stop limiting people and start opening doors… it’s music brought over from all over the world,” Witherspoon says in the two-minute sneak peek that dropped on Friday morning (March 10). “The bluegrass, the folk, the gospel. There’s so many threads woven through country music,” Musgraves adds.
Also, “My Kind of Country” is a fresh take on a competition series, breaking down barriers in country music by providing an extraordinary opportunity to diverse and innovative artists from around the world.
Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Cynthia Stockhammer will executive produce via Hello Sunshine. Jason Owen, president and CEO of Sandbox Entertainment, will also serve as executive producer alongside Izzie Pick Ibarra, the showrunner behind “The Masked Singer” and “Dancing With the Stars.” In addition, Done + Dusted’s Katy Mullan and Melanie Fletcher will also executive produce. Adam Blackstone will serve as the music director for the series.

An effort to improve the global reach of country music
A varied collection of singers from all over the world will compete in the series to get the attention of ground-breaking country artists Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton, and Orville Peck. The game show will pit 12 candidates against one another in an effort to find the next big country music star. Furthermore, each scout has chosen a different group of up-and-coming performers that they believe have that special something.
The teams of each artist are filled with international acts to promote cultural diversity. Allen’s team includes singers from Mexico, India, North Carolina, and South Africa, Guyton’s squad includes two Nashville and South African acts, and Peck’s team includes players from India, South Africa, and California.
Subsequently, the contestants will head to Nashville, Tennessee to compete for the chance to win “a life-changing experience from Apple, including global exposure across the Apple TV+ and Apple Music platforms.”
