“You’re Bad”, by Tia Beale: Groovy deep-house, coupled with pop elements

Tia, hailing from Sydney, Australia, brings a rich heritage blending Barbadian and Irish roots. With professional training in acting from both Sydney and Los Angeles, she gracefully divides her time between the stage and screen. Tia has been collaboratively working with the respected artist and musician, Steve Clisby. Her journey includes a feature on MusoTV and the launch of an EP in 2019, accompanied by two music videos, namely ‘Coke & Mentos’ and ‘Do It Over’. More recently, Tia unveiled her latest single, “You’re Bad”– how much do my ears take to this song? Keep reading to find out!

TL;DR: My ears take very well to this song; From the phased Rhodes pianos in the background to the picked bass in the intro, the instrumentation in this song immediately stands out as organic-focused, and once the percussion enters the scene, that is only brought to the fore even better.

As we start settling into the hook, we are introduced to the four-on-the-floor dance-type beat that we’ve all grown to love and appreciate in our lives. The energy of the song remains calm throughout the duration, credit due in part to the soft, gentle nature of the vocals, which give this track a soothing, but upbeat sound; a rare combination.

The vocals are executed rather well, too, with clever use of harmonies and layers that yield an element of dimension and depth of the song. The hook is easily singable, with the energy dynamic of the song shifting rather elegantly where the need is, and I was left happy.

The production of this song, as I alluded to earlier, has a very organic outlook and sound to it, putting its focus squarely on the bass and the pianos in the background, which immediately sound familiar to the listener, and made me comfortable and feel engaged through the runtime of the song.

In conclusion, “You’re Bad” by Tia Beale is a great track that more so than deserves your attention this week. Check out the song here:
