‘The Mexican’ by AstroMuso is an alternative rock track with reggaeton elements that tells the story of a lover that isn’t who they seemed to be. Its guitar-led melodies are feel like a slow pull while its lyrics describe a romantic relationship that is tinged with pain, deceit and betrayal.
The soundscape feels seductive, slow and illusive, highlighting the mood of the song’s lines while also pulling you in.

‘The Mexican’: Realisation
‘The Mexican’ describes a relationship where our narrator’s lover seems to slowly pull away. Hence, leaving in that space a feeling of being reeled in then thrown away. This seems to have left our singer’s life up-ended. “You took me in and you (threw) me away, you turned my life into night and day…”.
There’s this sense in the lines that there’s a strong line between the before and after. Almost like this relationship though illusive has changed something in our narrator. The different guitar melodies on the track feel like they pull viscerally at your skin. This attempting to simultaneously tug at the listener while highlighting the distance that’s being created in this relationship.
The distance highlighted in ‘The Mexican’ seems to be time. As though the push and pull the soundscape is communicating is simply the tinge of pain that passes through occasionally when time has passed. This is clear by the song’s third verse, when the singer finally reaches reality.
“…I reached reality only to find you would make me see,
You’re not the one that I hoped you would be.
Its been so long that the water’s dried from my eyes…”.
‘The Mexcian’ by AstroMuso captures (in retrospect) the singer’s disillusionment with their lover. There’s a sense of realisation in the lines that this love seems illusive. This is highlighted by descriptions of a party who seems cold now, in retrospect.
The song makes for a compelling listen.
