“Real One”, by Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L: A continuation of an evolving hip-hop legacy

We’ve had Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L in the studio in the past– and make no mistake, he still remains the raw, emotive storyteller in his relentless pursuit of true storytelling and music that reaches out to the hearts of his audience, as far and wide as they may be. On his latest single, “Real One”, what has he for us this time? Keep reading for my thoughts!

In his own words, as Breon’s artistry evolves, his sound takes on a more intimate direction, often described as “Emo R&B.” That is, truly, the case, with “Real One”– the style enveloping the listener come bar one; and Breon’s half-sung, half-rapped style lends a great amount of catchiness to the track. The pianos and the strings in the background that make up the beat also play a rather nice part to elevate the drama and the happenings in the song.

All this is delicately topped by the percussion department, which takes us on a back-to-basics hip-hop beat with the trap-laden influences that modern rap and RnB has come to be identified by. The hi-hats retain great bounce throughout the song, and at the end, we’re left thinking as to what more Breon is capable of, having already shown off his artistic versatility with his earlier work.

The mixing and mastering on this track is another highlight, with a marked improvement in the tightness and the control in the low-end in the mix, which keeps all the other elements and ranges front and in focus; which I quite loved throughout the duration of this track. There is a lot to like here, obviously, and I think you’ll agree with me. Check out “Real One” by Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L here!
