Prints of Monaco – New Ways | Sad and Inspiring

Indie-rock band, Prints of Monaco recently came out with their first single of the year “New Ways”. After their debut in 2019, the group has come now come out with their fourth single of their career, and are known by their elegantly sad sound. Their latest release showcases their emotive yet laid-back compositional style that explores themes of introspection through uplifting melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

An acoustic guitar progression creates a melancholic space as the track kicks off with a laid-back feel. As the title suggests, they sing heartfelt lyrics about “new ways” of trying to do things. Going through the experience love and heartbreak makes a person strong and weak, and sometimes it’s important to change things up a little to make relationships work. Prints of Monaco touches on this theme through their acoustic-driven composition here, and with lyrics that are probably all too relatable for some people listening.

A simple drum rhythm carries the groove of the song till the uplifting chorus section. What’s really interesting is the way the tempo changes, creating a kind of to-and-fro flow that transitions quite well between the sections – “So I’ve been figuring new ways to measure the miles / New ways to try and force a smile..” Paired with an infectious melody, the chorus plays quite well with the mellow instrumentation of the song; fit’s the “I’ve been thinking” vibe the band is going for! “New Ways” is yet another excellent addition to their discography and they’ve certainly gained a new fan today. Eager to hear more from the four-piece band soon!
