Man With a Corduroy Heart: Debut Single ‘The Wailers’ Offers Ethereal Grunge Bliss

Although Man With A Corduroy Heart represents a new project, its creator, Ryan Davies, is no stranger to the music industry. Ryan has been actively involved in the music scene for approximately 15 years, collaborating with various artists and gracing stages at festivals nationwide. His music has even been featured on BBC Radio. In addition, Ryan holds a music degree and has spent the past five years working as a mixing engineer for fellow musicians. On “The Wailers”, he introduces us to his sound and ethos—and I’m a fan. How? Keep reading for my thoughts!

The whole song is mellow, slow, and deliberate, with a very grunge, lo-fi aesthetic that captures your ear from the very start. Ryan treats us to ringing chords, simple-yet-graceful melodic lines and riffs intertwined with his dreamy, ethereal vocals that talk about themes of soft love and introspection.

There is something quite special about the way the elements are presented on this song, from the very start all through to the very end, and that is something I quite appreciated. From the structure of the song to the placement of the riffs, the distribution of the elements, they all transport you to another realm, and that is something I can say is not easily the case for a debut single.

“The Wailers” exudes intelligent and endearing elements throughout the production, and that is beyond a doubt. There is just so much effortless flow, and direction in the song, that you immediately feel like hitting the rewind button and looping this song for hours on end, which is what I found myself doing while I mellowed down and fixed me a drink—the perfect Saturday night song to relax to, I’d say.

In conclusion, “The Wailers” by Man With a Corduroy Heart is as good as music gets. It gets a two-thumbs-up recommendation from me, and then some more! Check out the song here:
