‘IA’ is the latest single from Sehore and the first preview of the band’s upcoming third album. One of the first things that stood out to me about ‘IA’ by Sehore was its unusual rhythmic foundation. The song is written in 5/4 time. It’s a meter that naturally feels less predictable than the more familiar rhythms found in most rock and pop music. What makes it even more interesting is that the rhythmic groupings continuously change throughout the song. Patterns move between 3+2, 2+3, and 4+1 subdivisions, creating a sense of instability that mirrors the track’s exploration of artificial intelligence and fragmented identity. To me, these rhythmic disruptions feel less like technical exercises and more like a deliberate challenge to expectations. Just when the song begins to feel familiar, it shifts direction again.
The introduction takes an unexpectedly patient approach. Instead of immediately launching into its most energetic moments, the arrangement gradually builds tension through atmosphere and anticipation. What stood out to me was that the slow build made the eventual arrival of the main groove feel significantly more impactful.
Sung entirely in Spanish, the track maintains a sense of urgency throughout. Even without focusing on every lyric, I found myself responding to the energy created by the interaction between rhythm, harmony, and performance. The arrangement constantly feels like it’s on the edge of falling apart, yet it never fully loses control.
Final thoughts
Despite running for only around two minutes, the single packs a remarkable amount of activity into its runtime. What impressed me most about ‘IA’ was how closely its musical structure supports its central theme. The shifting rhythms, unresolved tension, and cyclical structure all contribute to a listening experience that feels intentionally unsettled. For a song with such a brief runtime, the track leaves a surprisingly strong impression. Rather than asking the listener to simply observe its ideas, the song invites them to experience them through the music itself.
